Here from my Iron Man Podcast special are some of the transcripts from the cast and crew interviews.

Robert Downey Jr. - Tony Stark - Iron Man
"The reason that I am playing Tony Stark, the reason that I am involved in Iron Man, the reason that I am so excited is that I am crazy about movies. That's why I wanted to become an actor. Super heroes who manufacture weapons and then build one that they wear and use to me is a complete nerd-gasm. It speaks to kind of an American idea of what's possible."

Lesile Bibb - Christine Everheart - Vanity Fair Reporter
"She becomes his conscience. I am sort of a moral conscience for him. of like "This is what you're doing ? How about this is what you're doing. I say it's war profiteering. She's somebody who has this strong moral compass but at the same time gets completely enamored of him."

Gwenyth Paltrow - Pepper Potts
" I play Pepper Potts who Tony Stark aka Iron Man's assistant. They have a very good relationship. We have a really nice thing between us. It really works for the relationship. There's kind of like banter and sexual tension between them that is a lot of fun to play."

Jeff Bridges - Obadian Stane
"One of the things that interested me about the movie talking to Jon Favreau, the director was that he wanted to make a movie that was really grounded in reality. I never shaved my head. I always wanted to. Someday a part will come along and I'll have to do it. This one came along and I saw the comic book character. I'll do this and I
ll talk to Jon about it. Jon says "Well, don't feel like you have to shave your head", I said"Oh really." I wanted him to say that he wanted me to shave my head and he didn't."

Terrence Howard - James Rhodes
"My role in this movie is stand by genius and and provide the things that this genius needs as he tries to stand by the needs of the entire world and facilitate all of their wants and desires. It's like having the opportunity to be the assistant to Einstein. My friendship with Tony Stark started as a friendship in college and ended up becoming a business relationship. And now a mentoring relationship."

Jon Favreau
"It's fun to direct Iron Man because he's one of the super heroes that no one has made a movie about yet. He's the biggest one of the original pantheon of Marvel characters. He is an interesting character because he's an adult that has lived life and has problems. He's not just an adolescent who is coming of age in this film. It's fun to bring my life experience to the character of Tony Stark. He's an interesting guy in that he's a normal guy who becomes a superhero because of what he is able to create."

Special thanks to Paramount Pictures and Epk.TV for supplying audio interviews.

Podcast Link

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

Quantum Of Solace Preview

The latest James Bond movie is half way through filming. Sony Pictures provided some interviews with the cast and director Marc Forster which are featured on a podcast of the film. Here's some of their comments while they take a break shooting Chile.

Daniel Craig - James Bond
"It genuinely doesn't feel that it has been two months since we've been in Panama. Now in Chile, we're finished there. How that all fits in is someone else's job. But it looks stunning. "

Marc Forster - Director
The locations here in Chile are very, very beautiful in what it gives to Bond and the character is really, really good. We're shooting in the desert and the desert also brings in a certain loneliness, a certain solitude. That solitude and loneliness reflect who Bond is at this point."

Olga Kurylenko - Camille
"To be able to travel and go to all the places we've been. We've been to Panama and Panama City, Chile. So many scenes, I did the stunts I'm having one of the best times of my life."

Mathieu Amalric - Dominic Greene
"(He is a activist for greening the planet). It's his facade. It's his nice side. It's an eco-park, great idea, using natural resources not to pollute the planet. Plant trees and kill the desert."

Daniel Craig - James Bond
What's good about this one is that we're taking the story directly on. I know where we are and where his head is at. What's great about having Marc here is that storytelling is hi big thing. He wants the film to make emotional sense."

Quantum Of Solace Preview Podcast

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com
Space Vulture

This is a throw back to Science Fiction's illustrious pulp past with a larger than life villain and some twists that ties it nicely to today. This tale is told by two boyhood friends that have maintained that friendship through most of their lives. Below are partial transcripts from the interviews I did with the two authors.

Gary K. Wolf
"All our lives, (with boyhood friend Archbishop Of Newark, John J. Myers), I always wanted to do something with John creatively. I honestly don't know who suggested it, whether it was John or was it me. I do know that it was me that bought the copies of Space Hawk. I went to a used book dealer and I tracked down two copies of Space Hawk. Literally this was the book that changed my life. Without Space Hawk, there would have been no Roger Rabbit. I bought the two copies and gave one to John as Christmas present. I re-experienced that wonder that we experienced when we read it the first time. The second time through wasn't quite as good. It was obviously not a novel but short stories that have been strung together. The hero was kind of a card board yahoo. He wasn't even Buck Rogers. He wasn't that good. It was either one of us who said that it's a shame that we can't re-write it a new one the way that we remember it not the way it was. I said, "John, would you do that ? "And he said, "Yes, That would be fun." So we started a story that was not so much a re-writing of Space Hawk but kind of a re-imagining of it, taking the kinds of things that we would have enjoyed reading when we were in the seventh grade. We had the most fun. I really believe that really comes through in the book. You can get the sheer sense of enjoyment and pleasure that John and I had writing it."

Archbishop John J. Myers
"One time, I was visiting Gary and Bonnie's home when they lived kind of north of Boston. One afternoon, we came up with six possible scripts for Star Trek. They never got bot or used. We have always maintained both a friendship and a love for science fiction. Gary is a full time writer. This is the kind of book that you wouldn't mind that your kids read. It's really nothing that would be offensive to families or children, I think. "

Callie Russell is an interesting character. She's strong and determined. She carried on after her husband's death. She takes care of her two boys. I found her interesting as well. It was fun to see her develop. We really enjoyed the characters. We even enjoyed Gil Terry, who grew as the story went along. Even Space Vulture, it was interesting to have even that kind of evil character involved."

"This was interesting for me because I have never written fiction before. I'm into church matters and theology. We wrote two or three or four chapters fully. Then you do the rest of the chapters in two or three paragraphs. We had the basic characters in mind. Then we fleshed them out with much more depth and detail. Since Gary was the writer, he was the captain of the team."

"Probably since the time we were two years old, we lived in the small town. We lived on my great grandfather's farm for a while then we lived in town. Then we went to school together starting in first grade for twelve years. We were best of friends through out that time."

Gary K. I did enjoy the movie very much and that inspired me to look at the graphic novel. At that point, Truancy had already been written. I can't say that it was an inspiration for the book but I did enjoy it and see the thematic similarities. "

"In this particular instance, I had come into the fore-knowledge that there aren't to my knowledge any books about dystopia that revolves around education. In all the novels I had seen school is either positively or neutrally portrayed. A lot of what was written in Truancy about the school and the school system was inspired by my own experiences. A lot of this is based on reality and a lot of this is going on in our schools. Compulsory schooling in my opinion is a terrible idea. It it unilaterally controlled by one entity. History shows that school was used as means for control rather than a source of enlightenment. Compulsory schooling confuses teaching with learning. It confuses averages with progress. It confuses process with substance."

On his main character
"I didn't want to make the character alone. I wanted to make him isolated from the world around him especially in school. At the same time I wanted him to bounce his thoughts off of. "

On The Mayor
"I would say that he is the embodiment of all that is wrong with our educational system. Some of the geographical landmarks, the visual elements of the city were taken from my own experiences which is that I live in New York City. The city itself as in being completely corrupt and being dominated by it's educational system. That was not taken from anything. That was an application of the theme."

Podcast Description

This seventeen year old New York City high school senior has crafted a tale of totalitarian school system run with an iron fist by a dictatorial Mayor in The City. Caught in this system is Tack, a teenage boy trying to find answers. This first time novelist talks about his novel, plus schools and his work process. To throw all this into a mix that also includes raising an army dead or undead to stop his evil brother, Jared. Here is some excerpts from Gail's Sci-Fi Talk interview.

Gail Z. Martin
"There's really kind of a growing up that happens for all of the characters in the Blood King. It's one way to run away from a problem, it's another to try and fix it and go back and try to make it happen. There's a lot more responsibility. In book one, they were just trying to get out with their necks. In book two, Tris decides to take on the responsibility for his people. That's a pretty awesome burden. He has the perfect kind of magic to make a quick exit unintentionally. I thought a good bit, putting myself in Tris' position. As wonder as an idea to get Jarod off the throne and try to restore peace and some kind of sanity, bad things happen when you march an army across a country. It's hard to keep an army in control when they are a volunteer army and they are fighting for their own people, but his only option would be to use paid troops. That's another whole ball game to keep them under control. He's really looking at a choice where one side may not end up any better than the other. If your bring a warring and pillaging war machine across your country. He's really trying to look for a third alternative. Soe he finds some surprising allies in the many people that Jarod's killed."

"The Obsidian King was around at the time of Tris' grandmother. At the end of that war which happened about fifty years before Tris was born, The Obsidian's King's spirit was imprisoned by Tris' grandmother in an orb that was embedded into a magical river of power that flows below Dark Haven. It traps his soul on the edge of the abyss but not completely destroying him. We find out that Tris' grandmother had some pretty personal reasons for keeping the door open for redemption. When Jarod seizes power with Arontella who is committed to bringing the Obsidian King back to full power."

Podcast Description

In her follow-up to The Summoner, Tris escapes his evil brother but the danger is just starting. Author Gail Z. Martin gives us her take on Tris' journey plus her insights into her world of the Winter Kingdoms. We even discuss her convention experiences and what lies ahead for her novel series. Music is Elf Song by Victor Stellar.

That was a fun episode to shoot too. We shot in this big tank outat the University Of British Columbia. This big wave pool and we were able to sink the set. We had all of these divers in the pool with us."

On Sanctuary
"It is such an exciting concept. It sort of draws from the best of all the sci-fi shows that have been out there. It stands on its own. I hope we get to play in this universe for a while. When Damian Kindler said to me that "I want you to read this script and think about playing this character."I said of course and he said that he wanted to do a totally different look from Samantha Carter. I said, "Oh Yeah." We played around with all these different ideas and her having black hair is what we came up with. She's a lot sexier without saying look how sexy I am. She doesn't apologize for her sexuality at all and doesn't apologize for her eccentricities. Sam has always been a product of her environment which is the military. Always toting the party line has always done exactly what she was told for the most part. It's comfortable in that hierarchy. Where as Helen Magnus would die in that kind of environment. She has to be her own beast. For me the hair and stuff like that is so much fun.I'm all about writing the back story for her, where's she has been and what different relationships have meant to her. "

On The Stargate Movies
"Hopefully Ark Of Truth will be the first of a long line of stand alone movies. There's no really a prior (laughs) storyline that they will tie into. When I saw the script for Continuum, You know Brad Wright and Robert Cooper are fabulous. When you do something for so long, you get to know their writing. You get to appreciate what they do. These movie scripts, I don't know where they came from. Sometimes when you read a script, The formula of TV is basically if you have a twenty two episode season, you need four gret episodes a year, then you have a hit series. The rest are pattern episodes that you need to come in either at budget, under budget. So when I saw these movies, they were just so out of the box. They were just so different. they felt different and they felt new. After ten years of writing this show where does this come from ? Aren't you out of ideas ? Brad and Cop have been planning movies since season five."

On Stargate SG-1
"I really do think we reached the end of the line at the end of season eight. When Ben Browder, Beau Bridges and Claudia Black came on, everything shifted. I wouldn't say that it was a drag before, but the set wasn't as much fun as it was previously and it was because we were tired. Browder is a whirlwind. he is excited about everything. The sun coming up for him is exciting. His enthusiasm for absolutely everything is so infectious. It took a while, because at first it's really annoying..(laughs) I had pretty much given up doing stunts. My body's old, it hurts. So season seen for Teal'c was probably his slowest season, actually season eight when he became an orator. Then Browder comes on and even if you need a stunt man for some of the sequences, Ben learns it all. He doesn't have the I-might-get-hurt-If-I-Do-This-switch. His enthusiasm to do it just rubs off on you. We had this fight and I was so surprised that he learned every bit of it, the throwing around stuff and flips. He did it all. that just endears you to him. He goes about the most mundane with such veracity that it causes you to bring your own game up. Shanks is one of these meticulous dudes anyway who sweats and cries over every word Danile Jackson speaks. For him when Claudia came because she came the season before Ben. We kind of go that first injection of that new found spirit. It was a new show. It felt like we started something new."

Look for Amanda and Christopher's Podcasts at www.scifitallk.com

Thanks

Tony Tellado

Even More With Amanda Tapping

Amanda talks more about Sanctuary and Stargate and Stargate Ark Of Truth. This transcript features some material not used on my podcast.

Amanda Tapping on Stargate Direct To DVD movies
"It's been really fun just to get the gang back together and there is such a sense of joy working with these people. I sound like I'm towing some party line but it's true. The timeline for the movies is prior to Sam's going to Atlantis. Even though they are obviously coming out after. When I talked to the writers and the producers about this, I asked if there was a concern about me doing these movies and then suddenly I'm on Atlantis. It's the same character so there has to be some sensibility of the timeline. they said they are not concerned about it. The movies happen before she goes to Atlantis. So I said, OK, That's fine with me."

On Ark Of Truth
"The movie is very cool. In fact I'm really proud of both of them. Robert Cooper directed and wrote the first.Ity's good to be king. To have Robert on set, because he's the Executive Producer so he has all the power. He's the writer and he's directing so he doesn't have to answer to anybody. He gets to do whatever the heck he wants and he made a big, big movie. If there was another director potentially. We'd say, "Oh you have to watch the budget on this. But it's Rob. It's his show."

On Shooting Various Projects At The Same Time
We're really, really proud of it. We're cutting our teeth in a lot of ways. We're going to make mistakes along the way because it is so different and so cutting edge. But that's part of the fun. Last year was pretty crazy because we shot the pilot for Sanctuary in January, then I was shooting Atlantis and the movies simultaneously. It was pretty crazy. It was an embarrassment of riches. I felt incredibly blessed to be as busy as I was. But I was also like,"Who am I today ? I'm fighting the who and the what ? Do I like them ? I was shooting Ark Of Truth and I was doing a big fire fight then I would change costumes wipe off my dirty face and then walk on the Atlantis set looking all cool. I'd shoot that for a few hours then they'd tell me that they were ready for me on the Ark Of Truth. Then I'd get dirty again and roll around in the mud and then jump back into that set. There were a couple of days where I was like, "Oh my." Thank God, it's just Sam Carter, I'm playing."

On Samantha Carter
"It's been a real privilege to play her. The evolution of the character, the evolution of the mythology of the show has been amazing. Now when I go back and look at early episodes, I notice that the production values on the show is just astounding that they were able to churn that out every single week., two hundred plus episodes of SG-1, coming up on one hundred for Atlantis..Wow."

There's more with this talented actress and Chris Judge too...Keep coming back. Us as human beings, I think we all at one time feel disenfranschised. When you are accepted into something, I think that human nature is that we do follow blindly. Bu that journey is so well represented through Tim's character. He does a fanatastiuc job in the movie. He's fabulous."

On Stargate's cancellation
"For many years, we would negotiate one year contracts because we thought every year was our last year. Then in season nine, Ben (Browder), Claudia (Black) then Beau (Bridges) came on.Then we had Lou (Gossett Jr) on. We had once again go on with a ratings boom. So for the first time since the pilot, we negotiated two year contracts. We truly believed we would go eleven seasons then probably end the show and start doing the movies. When we got cancelled we were the network's highest rated show. It really blind sided us. That's why season ten felt so unfinished because we didn't think it was going to be the end. We thought there was going to be a season eleven."

On the 200th episode
"That was the most fun I have ever had in my career. That's the honest truth I had more fun than I have ever had in this business. It was so infectous. Every department with the builds that they had to do. Not only set wise but wardrobe wise, make-up wise. They basically had to do all of that in a week or two. But everyone was so happy doing it. They took such joy in it. The Wizard Of Oz scene, they literally worked twenty four seven on the costumes and the make-up. There was no grumbling about being tired. People who had never been on set came down to watch the different viganettes that we did. That week was the best week of any show I have ever done.I kidded Ben and Claudia about the Farscape spoof. They're very protective of Farscape They really weren't gung ho about it. The had both gone up to talk to Rob Copper and Brad Wright about it. "You know how much fun are you going to poke at Farscape ? As we got closer, you could see that they were getting into it. Browder was like a little kid. Actually Browder is always like a little kid.(Laughs) It was fantastic. I almost didn't want to take a paycheck that week. But I got over it. (Laughs)"

The Podcast has the entire conversation. Thanks to Deep Focus for setting up the interview. When I first saw the script, I said, "(Robert) Cooper (Writer/Director)are you on drugs ? (Laughs) i said that there was no way we can shoot this in fifteen days. Some how we did it and that's what I joked with him about. We had fifteen days of main unit and thirty seven days of second unit."

"Julian Sands is a creepy man. (Laughs) He's a very soft spoken guy. When you bring the history of the characters that he's played and he speaks in a very measured way. I didn't get to spend a whole lot of time with him when he did his first appearance on the show. In fact I was the only one that didn't meet him, When he came up for the movie, So I sat down and had a conversation with him. I don't know if he is one of those guys that really doesn't break character, but it was weird man. He's cool but he's still creepy. You can't take the eyes (contact lenses) in and out very often. A lot of the times he really couldn't see who he was talking to. That would affect his movements. So he would move his head very slowly. So I was so weirded out. Then actor we wrapped and we took off our make-up and he had his eyes taken out. Then he was just a lovely man. "

"I hate that gray streak.Teal'c has been on Earth and he doesn't know about Grecian Formula ? It's hard when you're in to see how it will cut together. I have a very different process. Like (Michael) Shanks, (Amanda) Tapping. Ben (Broader) and Claudia (Black), they're theater people. they break down the minutia of the script. They break down every word and sentence, I read the script once. I don't like to pre-plan a whole lot. I like to be surprised and I like not to know what I am doing from day to day. When I in that situation, I really don't know how it all cuts together. When I did the behind the scenes commentary, that was the first time I had seen the movie. If you listen to the commentary, I don't say a whole lot. Because I'm actually watching the movie.Pete Woeste (Director of Photography) and Robert Cooper are prattling on and I'm not saying anything. I'm just watching the movie. The scope of it. I was floored by it. When I was doing it, I said, I hope this gets some air time because it's so gorgeous. Then when you see the movie and how much time they spent on it, how much time they do spend to Teal'c's trek back, it's just amazing."

"Stargate has been a very successful show. It's light and a family show. You can get your kids together and watch it but it still manages to have a really great message without hitting you over the head with a hammer. One of the parallels with the Stargate world and what really goes on our world. The elections now, the country needs to go a different way. There's at least two different factions. The whole Ori storyline with every thing that goes on under the umbrella of religion. On Earth, we are so affected by someone else's religion. How we are so affected and are so quick to judge people on what their beliefs are. I love that whole Ori storyline. A: Be ok but check your thing out. Investigate, If you;re talking about you're believe in separates you from people, doesn't that go against what religion is supposed to be about ? I think the message from the maker is always about loving and understanding and bringing people together, not separating course;f from people."

I'll have more with Christopher Judge. The Podcast has the entire conversation. Thanks to Deep Focus for setting up the interview. This an epic fantasy adventure with very little basis in real life. Here are some of his comments from my podcast on 10,000 B.C.

Roland Emmerich - Director - 10,000 B.C.
"10,000 B.C. is the classic hero myth story where a young hero has to pretty much go to the end of the world to rescue his girl which is an emotional, private and personal thing. Through this journey he learns to take further responsibility than just his girl. First for a group of people then for many many more."

"He becomes this young hunter who is looked down on, in the end becomes a hero because he takes on this enormous responsibility."

"This is a classic love at first sight. They fell in love as kids. Evolet was this girl found in the mountains near a dead woman. D'Leh saw her and fell in love with her. I don't think love is like explainable. Their love in the very beginning is in danger. That like always is very interesting. They love each other but they cannot be together. That's the basis of any good love story."

"I am actually proud of Steven Strait (D'Leh) because he like the hero D'Leh makes a total transformation in this movie. He at the beginning was this actor good but not quite sure of himself. At the end he gives this speech and you think it's Gladiator. He came in his own way and had to carry this movie and he carried it."

"I saw Camilla Belle (Evolet) in two or three movies and really, really liked her. I always felt that she has the quality of this young Elizabeth Taylor."

"If the story doesn't work, then the visual effect doesn't work. A story will only work when you can get into the head of the character. So every thing is character based. Sometimes when a scene doesn't work, it's not because it's not shot right or doesn't look right, but rather the character is not right. So you have to massage until the character's right. "

Look for my podcast on 10,000 B.C.

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

Nicholas D'Agosto

This talented young actor appears in Inside, playing a loner Alex who is "adopted" by a couple who recently lost their son with grave consequences. This season he also played West Rosen in the popular series, Heroes. Here's a partial transcript from my podcast interview with him.

Nicholas D'Agosto
" I was really happy with Inside. Jeff Mahler (director) was so sweet, so down to earth, and very willing to work with you.We keep in touch with each other regularly. he had a strong vision. This film was made for nearly next to nothing. I've seen films with thirty times the amount of money that he had with a lot less quality. The sky's the limit for that guy."

"Cheryl White (Mrs. Smith in Inside) is a tour de force in that film. She's a magnificent person. Really everyone was, Kevin (Kilner) and Leighton (Meester) She's just phenomenal. She was so present every scene and she makes that her character who is clearly off her rocker seem so believable. That was one of the things that was so stunning looking back on that.Cheryl and I had a wonderful connection on that film. She's such a giving actress. It felt very good between us."

On his character of Alex in Inside
"There's a real longing for him to have what these other people have. It's not malicious in any way. There's no ill intent. I think he really feels a genuine kind, it brings joy to him to see other people to live in that environment (a home). The minute he is no longer able to experience that with others and is alone again, that loneliness really crushes him. He has so completely retreated with all of the guilt and blame he has on himself. It was extremely difficult for me, although certain things I really understood about Alex, but at a certain point, I'm not going to sit there and take it. At a certain point my character is not going to be able to hold back. One thing that Jeff and I worked on quite a bit was, there were takes where I went too far. And Jeff would come in and say, "Look, you really have to, even now not get pass that point and not cross the boundary. Watching the film again, I really remember those scenes and how it was a struggle to just sit there and continue to be soft spoken. to continue to be differential. That was really difficult. But it was cool and is a big part of what the character is."

On playing West Rosen in Heroes
"It was another magnificent experience. It was a real career jump in a way. To be able to walk on a show that has such a strong and large fan base. To be able to walk into that world, it was a real gift that they gave me by bringing me onto that show. So I was really thankful. I love fantasy and sci-fi every since I was a young kid. To be able to turn to everyone that I grew up with and tell them, I know we used to talk about this, "But I actually can fly."I say that I get to fly but there are long days where you're strapped into these really tight harnesses. And you're hanging for a long time. It was great. It takes a lot of people to have it happen. It's obviously something that that they really worry about safety. Then you bring in Hayden (Panettiere ) or who ever else you're flying with at the time. It takes a lot of coordination. But they're all real pros on that show. You're in the midst of a blue or green screen and you have to somehow transport yourself to what you're doing. It was a lot of fun. It was my first time doing any blue or green screen. The Hollywood sign sequence was one of my favorite scenes if not one of my favorite episodes that I got to do. It was a great story line for her and I and a great part for where we were at. they way they made that look. It was all CGI and it turned out really beautiful."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

Heroes Interviews. I chatted with him for my podcast. Here's a partial transcript.

AJ Bowen On A Party Scene in The Signal
"The whole movie, we took very little time to shoot. One of the benefits that we had was a pre-established relationship with each other. Scott (Poythress) went to high school together. We've known each other a very long time. Cheri Christian, Scott and I went to the University Of Georgia together as well as the director of my segment, Jacob Gentry. We spent about two days, banging out the middle part of a key scene, kind of pre-blocking it. We all went to the Signal Boot Camp before we shot. It was incredibly beneficial for us. We got together and refined the script and really developed the relationships. As it was written, it was a very Blake Edwards type scene, Blake Edwards in the Apocalyspe. And our backgrounds are in comedy. it was an opportunity to really play. It was a blast and a joy.If you plan well enough, you can allow things to naturally occur that are sweet. We knew that there were pretzel's on the table. It wasn't written the way it was planned but it just sort of happended. I'm a big fan of pre-plannng and allowed to riff on that."

Jacob (Gentry - One of the directors) was interested on how human beings handle etiquette especially at the time of the Apocalyspe. How do you maintain societal norms ? That's something that I thing can be hysterically funny. It also helps that when things get very very serious there that the audience is invested by that point in time and feel closer to the characters if there hadn't been some moments that were fairly light hearted."

Jacob and I were really interested for lack of a better word, Lewis, I suppose. represents the human villain, the traditional villain. This actor has also appeared in The Other Side and the upcoming Dance Of The Dead.

Justin Welborn
"He's truly in love with his girl. Now whether she is truly in love with him is a totally different question. I think while there are three transmissions and I think the names of the transmissions are interesting too. I think that there's very different loves happening which I think is very real. Id doesn't matter if it's your lover, your husband or whatever."

"My segment was specifically directed by Dan Bush but there was one director with three heads. Every body was working in tandem. There's always someone behind the camera. There's always someone directing the scene and looking at the lights, things like that. And then there was always this other person who to kind of,"Hey dude, it's going great. We just need a little more of this" So it was all very much that it was those kind of things that if you felt you could be missed, there was no missing you. You always had someone to hold you and tell you what's going on. Or you would have someone who would tell you that it's looking good and going fine. Dave (Bruckner), Dan (Bush) and Jacob (Gentry -directors) are old friends. This is the first film that I worked with Dan on but he's worked with everybody else many times. We knew one another before. It was as easy as could be from my particular viewpoint. Since we had all been working so long together it was a very natural thing. Ego did not get in the way as much as kind of actually help the thing along."

"The Signal affects everybody very differently. The conclusion you usually come to is that I'm going to have to kill this person to make this stop. The way I look at it is that all of a sudden, all of your fears and desires and all of your paranoia are suddenly extremely well founded.I would say that the nature of man is usually to run away or to try to pull things apart. That's pretty much what the signal does while everybody sees something different. It gives you your own warped prospective."

Podcast Link

Look for a clip from the film at my home page plus a featurette with cast and director's interviews. He was blessed with a great cast with Nicholas D'Agosto Of Heroes, Kevin Kilner of EFC, Leighton Meester of Gossip Girl, and Cheryl White from both X-Files and Miracles. This first time director is someone to watch. Here's some excerpts from my podcast interview.

Jeff Mahler
"When I look for something that I want to write, it usually comes from the spark of something that I want to explore. With Inside, for whatever reason I was kind of intrigued with grief and how people get around it and how they get over it. I think that it's something everybody has to experience. I also had this idea about this guy who was always curious about people. they two ideas combined. The lead, he has his own things and the parents have their own things and it worked that they combined."

"I've been in LA for about sven years now. When I first moved out here I was doing the studio thing and I still kind of am. I like the studio system a lot. But it's a whole different game to write scripts and specs and then sell specs. And then to have to go through the studio system to get them made. So I decided to do my own thing. I pushed it out there to get it made to reach that next step. That's what I set out to do. I pretty much started writing the script with that in mind. I was in pre-preoduction as I was writing it. "

"The house we used was the hardest thing to get together. In the script it was very specific about having a long hallway. Every location especially in Los Angeles, it was hard to find a house that looked like a suburban house that has a long hallway like that. We had to search for a while. We lucked out ramdomly. My roomate actually knew of a house and we paid to rent it out."

"Nicholas D'Agosto came in before Heroes and read the part of Alex. He really got the role. One of the things I like about Nick is that he is very expressive in the face and eyes, and his face in general. He can say a lot of things without actually having to open his mouth. That was important to the character because he goes through a lot of internal struggle. I thought also that the audience feels what he feels when he's watching people. He was great in getting that accross. Kevin Kilner has that really tough role because he's stuck in the middle. He wants to believe what his wife believes but he also knows it's the wrong thing as well. He's torn between that basic human emotion of want and doing the right thing. He has to walk that line like Nick does. Cheryl White is an actress that has kicked around for a while and I just don't get why she's not bigger than she is. We read a lot of different people for the part. A lot of them played the mom role over the top. But with Cheryl she really got it. She really did feel nurturing and just like someone who really was grieving but when she slipped she played as some one who was insane. Besides Nick, she's really the heart and soul of the film."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

More With Marlene Forte On Shooting Star Trek

I spoke to Marlene again after her three days of shooting in J.J. Abrams new Star Trek movie

Marlene Forte
"All I can promise you is that you Trekkers are going to be so well rewarded. It's amazing. It looks beautiful. The costume designer, Michael (Kaplan) is a genuis. J.J. is kind of the coolest laid back genius and really approachable. The vibe on the set, even though it's long and we're waiting around. This is a crop of very talented youngsters. I'm not old but I'm the middle aged person on the set. This set is packed with young vibrant really good actors. Chris Pine (Captain Kirk) is doing a good job and Zachary (Qunito - Mr Spock) just looks like...Spock. It's beautiful and amazing and well worth the wait."

"The transporter room is up to my standards and above. The design on this movie, is precious, beautiful, amazing, slick, hot and sexy. (Laughs) It's really great just watching it. I am proud to be a part of it even in the smallest way. I just feel really lucky to be a part of this. A great vibe. A lot of work. Everyone is working real hard. You see the final product on the little screen and can only imagine how beautiful it's going to look projected. You're in a for a treat, a wonderful treat."

"I had my own input on operating the transporter which was nice. There's a whole crew of people in there. It wa snice to be the head female in there. It was a magical place to be for three days. I really pray that I can go back again in March. I worked with some of the major players. I can't say more than that. It came down from the gods, J.J. himself. He said, you're doing that interview. I said, "Aye Aye, Captain." He knows your'e my Cuban fellow. J.J. is cool. There is a reason that he's so successful. His vibe and his energy is positive. It's true to Star Trek. It doesn't look like something else. It's definately Star Trek."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com
J.J. Interviews courtesty of Paramount Pictures.

Mark Waters - Director
"One of the things that attracted me is that I have always loved movies in the fantasy genre. When I read these books, I saw this as an opportunity to do something that had not been done before, kind of a movie that dealt with adventure, fantasy and incredible interesting creatures but it wasn't set off in a far off land with British wizards or Gothic orphans, or some strange unrecognizable lead actors. Instead it was these very identifiable American kids who seemed to have plunked down in an extremely extraordinary situation. That was something that I hadn't seen in a while. I thought that this was really exciting opportunity to make a movie that everyone can relate to."

Freddie Highmore - Jared and Simon Grace
"The one thing was to do so you always knew which one it is. There's never a confusion on which boy it could be. To try to make them as different as possible. Not the same. Jared is the one that always acts and does, and seems like the tough one. And Simon thinks about things more. He would probably do better at school. Not because he's brighter but just because he applies himself more."

Sarah Bolger - Mallory Grace
"Mallory is a character who's had to deal with her parent's divorce after her father left. So now she's living with her mom and her two brothers, Simon and Jared and they're moving to the Spiderwick estate which causes a whole lot of trouble along the way. She knows why her parents broke up. And she also has to deal with her two brothers. She has to be kind of the younger version of the mom."

Mary Louise Parker - Helen Grace
"One of the boys on my television show, Weeds, it was his birthday and I went to get him a gift. I went to the bookstore and asked if they could recommend anything. They recommended these books. They said the books were so wonderful so that how I knew them. I gave him the first book and he came back and said how much he loved them. "

Seth Rogen - Hogsqueal (Voice)
"Hobgoblins are good and if they spit in your eye, you can see the unseen world. That's their special ability. I can't actually do that.I've been spitting in people's eyes since I've been working on this movie and nothing happens. He is generally pretty self serving. He is on a mission of vengeance because his family was killed by the ogre, Mulgarath. He has a problem though in that he loves to eat birds for food, much like me. That's where I associated with the character. If Buffalo Chicken Wings present themselves in front of me. (Laughs) "

There's more in my podcast about the movie. We renew our ties and discuss his new role as John Druitt in the web series Sanctuary. Christoper has also appeared as Zor-El in Smallville and played a recurring role as a wraith in Stargate Atlantis. Here are some excerpts from my podcast interview with Christopher.

Christopher Heyerdahl On John Druitt
"It's a wonderful character to sink your teeth into. When I first read it. I was given the script and had no idea that I was in the running or even being considered for the role. I read it and fell in love with this character. He's so complex. Anything can happen with this character. When the final decision was made and I was the lucky one to take it into fruition, needless to say, a pretty happy man."

"I love period drama. For me it was an added bonus. In that one scene on one side it's a scene of joy. It so playful. There's a levity to that scene is so delicious that has nothing apparently with the world that we're first introduced to. Of course, the bonus is when I ask Helen (Amanda Tapping) to marry me. Of course she says yes and I get to do a kissing scene. That was something that was very professional of course. I didn't enjoy it myself but the character did very very much. We giggled so much. One of the things that you mentioned in the last time we talked is the connection that you found between Amanda and I, the first time we worked together on SG-1. "

"We decided that he (John Druitt) should look as if he was having a heck of a time and not necessarily doing that well. The most extreme look at we could go to...because when we go back to Victorian England, we have a very graphic novel kind of look. He has the front bangs coming down and the pony tail. much more in that graphic novel feel. To take that very young and masculine look and to go to completely the opposite as he has been voyaging through time. So we see him not looking at all the same."

On his appearance on Smallville as Zor-El
"I approached it pretty much as what was on the page. The script was constantly in flux. As far as prep, it was pretty much by the seat of my pants. And I was hoping that the seat of my pants was hooked up to a wire so I could be flying around. It was great fun to play and anti-superhero or anti-uncle superhero. Helen Slater (Lara) was so much fun. She's such a sweetheart. She's a big theater person as well and has her own theater company in Los Angeles. She was so ready to play. We worked together before. So it was a bit of a homecoming for us. She's just wonderful."

On his role as a Wraith on Stargate Atlantis
"They brought me in and gave me this fantastic character originally in the episode, Common Ground. When I saw that script, Oh my this is great. It was such a wonderful story. These two unlikely characters coming together, Major Sheppard and this Wraith. It was wonderful that these two had to put their differences aside and work together and of course find Common Ground as the episode was called. It was the beginning of something really great. Coming back this season has been great fun."

Podcast Link

More with Christopher on the podcast.

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com
The Eye

The Eye is based on a Hong Kong film, Jian Gui", a woman who receives an eye transplant that allows her to see into the supernatural world. This version stars Jessica Alba as Sydney Wells who gains a second chance at sight. From my podcast on the film here are some comments from the cast and the film's co-directors.

Jessica Alba
"I play a blind solo violinist. I am not blind nor am I musically inclined in any way shape or form. While I was shooting Fantastic Four, I actually started taking violin lessons pretty consistently starting with Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star which I don't think I can play as well still."

Parker Posey
"I think I have a very over protective relationship with Sydney, because she's been blind for so long, I protect her. I take care of her and it's really hard for me to let go of that role. That's been interesting to play."

Alessandro Nivola
"I'm the guy that she comes to when she starts having problems after having a cornea transplant. He's there to try to ease her transition from being blind most of her life to being somebody who can see. And he, through out the movie is entirely skeptical about there being any kind of supernatural reality. He's a very scientific oriented person.

David Moreau - co-director
"Every day, Jessica surprises us on the set with her commitment to the character and how she wanted to be close to her character. She would bring ideas. It has been a tough shoot because we have worked hard to make this movie great and she was always on the same track as us. She was very dedicated. I can rave again for hours about Alessandro. Working with Jessica and him was always a pleasure."

Xavier Palud - co-director
"It was very interesting for us to make a movie about sight. For us it was very interesting to be in the skin of Sydney Wells, our main character to have only her point of view. The movie was like an experiment for the audience and for us."

Jessica Alba
"It's scary in a different way because you're not sure if the character is seeing things or if she is just losing her mind. I think playing that line is cool because it allows the audience to put themselves in the character's shoes and see how they would react to this reality."

Alessandro Nivola
"What it's aiming to be, is a really scary movie that also has quality in terms of its film making. writing and storytelling. I think it's going to be more than a cheap thrill in the vein of The Others and The Ring and some of the films of this genre that have been made with it in mind to frame beautiful shots, to write scenes that advance the story, to have characters that are believable and real. And on top of all that to scare the Hell out of you."

Podcast Link

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com
Marlene Forte

Marlene Forte will play the Transporter Chief in the new anticipated Star Trek film directed by J.J. Abrams. She has also appeared in Lost among her many TV guest starring roles. She has a solid stage background coming from the noted Labyrinth Company in New York. Here's part one from my podcast interview with her.

Marlene Forte
"I will play the Transporter Chief in Star Trek (feature).I'm the first Cuban in outer space. I don't know if that's true. but I am definitely the first Cuban on the U.S.S Enterprise. I picked up an extra shooting day. Hopefully there will be more of me. They will have a hard time editing me out considering that people get beamed up all the time."

"I didn't audition for this. The casting director, I guess who has cast me in other things before including Lost,. said that she would just bring in her (Marlene's demo reel) They saw thirty three people and my reel. I think because I kind of auditioned for them for Lost and have worked with him in the past, I think it was easier for them to hire me."

"I was really psyched to hear that since I didn't know I was up for it. I heard right before Christmas last year. So it was a nice gift. I e-mailed the Assistant Director a few days ago asking for sides (script elements) and maybe a name for this character. She got back to me and said that my name was Transporter Chief. You won't get the sides until a couple of days before because it's security. That's big with J.J. Abrams because he did the same with Lost. When I auditioned for Lost, they change the name of the characters when they send out the sides. You kind of get an idea of the storyline. There's a lot of shows on television and honestly. I don't watch a lot of TV but I will do research. I'll go online and watch a couple of episodes. After I got cast and they sent me the script and I said, Oh My God, it's with Locke. Every page had my name watermarked across it. High security. I think J.J. Abrams should give a lesson to our government."

"I know that it's a prequel. I have a feeling that it's going to be fantastic. I did some research and watched The Cage, the original Star Trek series pilot. The plot was brilliant and way ahead of its time. That's why it survived. Spock had emotions in that episode. He got angry. It was an eye opening experience. I was a little kid, but I watched them all growing up. I remember as a kid really being into them with my dad. I love the original Star Trek. I've had a couple of fittings for my costume which looks real cool by the way. The other day, I was there, "Oh My God, I'm wearing a Star Trek costume. They totally resemble the original series costumes and staying in that vein. I think that's fantastic because I loved those. The design, the colors are great. I think it's going to be sensational."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

J.J. So with in the next month, we'll be back up shooting again. We are in a position now where broadcasters are showing interest in the show. So we may end up doing two versions. One which is directly for the internet which will have different characteristics and gaming aspects and a more interactive side. And a broadcast series which we're kind of excited about. It allows us a bit more freedom on the internet side to do some different things. And for broadcast, it will be more of a straight television show. We will be using all the green screen aspects and all of the cool stuff."

"There's a lot of experience here because of Stargate. And it's interesting for us to find out as we sit down in a room together and start breaking things down on just how much experience there is collectively. It gives us a bit more freedom in a lot of ways because we have a bit more confidence in what we're doing."

"It was amazing. We were the studio, we were the broadcaster. For the pilot, there was an incredible amount of freedom. And we also keep each other in check in terms of quality control. We were also able to hand pick a crew based on people that we all worked with. We have the best of the best of the best in every aspect working on it. So when we got to broadcast, as I said that version may be a bit different, because we will have to answer to broadcasters. But we're the studio which is a pretty cool position to be in."

"It is an amazing amount of freedom to make it look what every we want to do (with the green screen) Even just the look of the old city and the new city and that crossover. We get to have a really goth, comic book kind of look."

"We can tweak the historical aspects of the show (Due to Helen Magnus' long life span) It's kind of cool. I love the fact that you look around the set and there's pictures of Helen with Einstein or Joe Louis, with Winston Churchill. You sort of get a sense that she's not only witnessed history but lived a great deal of it. We can draw upon that too in terms of her experience and the kind of things that she might be chasing down."

Tony Tellado
"Maybe she influenced history, by whispering in Einstein's ear or telling Joe Louis when to duck or jab."

Amanda
"We are totally looking into that aspect of it. Some of Einstein's early work and her influence. That could all come into play."

"We shot an episode towards the end of the season of Stargate Atlantis called Trio, which is basically Jewell Staite, David Hewlett and I. I haven't had so much fun in such a long time. We had a blast. He's always been a treat to work with from his early guest appearances on SG-1, he's a great actor to work with. Jewell brings a whole another aspect. And the three of us together, is kind of lethal. It's amazing that we made it through takes without laughing our heads off."

"When Ben (Browder) and Claudia (Black) came into SG-1, I had been away and missed a few episodes when I had my daughter. So I came into this whole new show. I felt out of my element. "Hey, who are these people, muscling in our turf?: And my back got up a little bit to be honest, like,"Hey who are you guys? Wait a second, didn't you have your own show?" And then going over to Atlantis where I was supremely aware that it was a possibility that people would be a little threatened by me coming over. So I was very, very careful on how I handled it. I made sure that everyone felt extremely comfortable that I was there and it was their show. I wasn't going to have a huge huge part in it but I was trying to find my way. You know be very quiet about it. It is interesting because I have played both sides of the coin."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

Cloverfield

Cloverfield took the box office by storm. Produced by J.J. Abrams and Directed by Matt Reaves who collaborated before on the TV series, Felicity. Here's some samples from my Cloverfield Podcast.

J.J. Abrams
"My son Henry and I went to Tokyo last year when Mission Impossible 3 was released in Japan. We went to a bunch of toy stores mostly because that's what he and I wanted to do. In Japan, there's some great and different toy stores. And I realized in almost all of them Godzilla was still featured quite a bit. It just struck me that there's iconic monster that was still so many years later still prevalent in these stores and had meaning to the culture. I thought that I wished we had a monster like that. You can argue King Kong can be sort of in that vein. It really didn't have the same meaning. It really just stuck with me this idea of making a monster movie."

Matt Reeves
"The exciting thing here was to figure out a way to sort of do a grand scale monster movie. this huge crisis but have it be made in a way where basically people watching the film would feel that they could have made the film if they had been in exactly that same spot. "

Michael Stahl David - Rob Hawkins
"We're at a party and we're having a good time. All of a sudden, the lights go out. Nobody knows what it is. It's a sound we never heard before. We don't know what's going on. We look on the news and see that an oil tanker has been capsized. We go to the roof to see what's going on."

Lizzy Caplan - Marlena Diamond
"I play Marlena and she is not part of this group of friends. She just happen to show up at the party. She knows Jessica Lucas' character, Lilly. I just stop by this party to say hello. Stuff happens. And I get stuck with these people that I barely know including TJ Miller's character of Hud who has a crush on me and whom I can barely stand at the beginning of the movie."

Jessica Lucas - Lily Ford
"Probably the coolest thing I've had to do is that we shot a scene the other night where I get taken away in a helicopter. We have to run up to helicopters that are going full blast. I get thrown into the helicopter that takes off into the sky. I had never been on a helicopter before. I had never done anything that crazy. I felt like a real action star."

Mike Vogel - Jason Hawkins
"He's a bit of a core-life crisis guy, Rob's older brother. He's kind of the hack to Rob's success. He's the kind of guy who was really really cool in high school and he never quite left."

Odette Yustman - Beth McIntyre
"They trying to escape and trying to find some kind of shelter. Rob gets a phone call from me. And he sees that I'm hurt. So his first thought and his first reaction, is that,"I need to find Beth." The rest of my friends are saying she's probably gone with now way that she has survived. She's in the middle of the attack. He doesn't care. He's going to fight to find Beth. The others agree and it's his journey and how they try to survive to get to Beth."

TJ Miller - Hud
"There's a very large sound like a roaring sound then the lights go out. It was scary for me as an actor and as this character. The lights come up and there's a lot of commotion outside. They watch the news to see that there is a large roaring sound. They go to the roof because they are in the area of Manhattan where the disturbance was and all heck brakes loose."

Podcast Link

Thanks,

Tony Tellado
www.scifitalk.com

J.J.
